Two More Biglaw Firms Announce Their Intent To Combine In 2025 – Above the Law

upon
us,
with
two
major
mergers


Troutman
Pepper
and
Locke
Lord
,
followed
by

Ballard
Spahr
and
Lane
Powell


already
having
been
announced
this
month.
Law
firm
merger
interest
is
now
at
an

“all-time
high,”

and
with
the
urge
to
merge
in
the
air,
two
more
firms
have
signaled
that
they’ll
soon
be
joining
together.

Today,
Am
Law
100
firm
Womble
Bond
Dickinson
and
Am
Law
200
firm
Lewis
Roca
announced
that
they’d
combine
to
create
a
1,300-lawyer
firm,
with
a
total
of
more
than
$742
million
in
gross
revenue
based
on
last
year’s
numbers.
The
merger
will
take
effect
on
January
1,
2025,
and
the
firm
will
operate
under
Womble
Bond’s
name.
The
new
firm
will
have
a
presence
in
the
US
and
UK.

Womble
Bond’s
chair
and
CEO
Betty
Temple
and
chair
and
CEO-Elect
had
this
to
say
of
the
pending
merger:

“One
of
the
first
parallels
that
emerged
between
our
two
firms
was
a
shared
strategic
vision
for
serving
clients
in
fast-growing
cities
and
innovation
hubs.”

As
noted
by

Bloomberg
Law
,
the
united
firm
will
be
led
by
Benn
and
Lewis
Roca’s
Kenneth
Van
Winkle,
who
will
serve
as
vice
chair.
